Whose Job Is It?
Posted on Jan 27th, 2012
The City's Department of Transportation and Environmental Services has updated the flyer "Whose Job Is It?" which provides contact information for many of the common problems one finds on the city's streets. Click here to download the pdf, or on the picture for a smaller image file.

Temporary Relocation of Custis Ave & Route 1 Bus Stop
Posted on Dec 27th, 2011
The Metro bus stop located at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway (North Bound Lanes), and East Custis Avenue will be relocated beginning 3 Jan 2012 due to the construction required for the Route 1 Improvements Project.  The bus stop will be relocated just south of the intersection of East Howell Ave and Jefferson Davis Highway, at the closest storm inlet to the traffic light.  A map of the area is located below.  A concrete pad will be placed between the sidewalk and curb to give passengers a good platform to enter and exit the bus.  The bus stop will remain at its temporary location until the new bus stop is constructed, and the new North bound lanes are open. Our Historian
Posted on Nov 30th, 2011
One of the many things we lose with the passing of Judy Lowe is our community historian. And not only did she seem to remember everything, she loved to share what she knew.

In the article "Time Capsule" she recounted the history of a time capsule at George Washington Middle School.

In the article "Our Little Red Caboose" she recounted the history of the caboose that resides outside Mount Vernon Community School.

Judy loved the caboose but infact she was the engine behind "The Little Neighborhood That Could". I'm truly going to miss our living time capsule.

Del Ray loses one of its stars
Posted on Nov 29th, 2011
On Monday, Judy Lowe passed away. Over the years, she has proven herself to be one of Del Ray's biggest fans, supporter, promoter, activist, and volunteer.

The viewing will be on Friday, December 2nd, from 6-8 p.m. at the Everly- Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 Braddock Road.  Due to the expected high attendance at her funeral it will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 4PM at Del Ray United Methodist Church at 100 E. Windsor Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301.

Judy generously gave much of her time to the Del Ray Citizens Association, and the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, any contributions be sent to Del Ray Citizens Association, P.O. Box 2233, Alexandria, VA 22301. Please put Judy Lowe Memorial on the memo line.  DRCA will work with the family on a fitting tribute.

I'm having trouble finding the words to express what Judy meant to Del Ray so instead please read the tribute to Judy Lowe given by Congressman Jim Moran on June 18, 2003 (click on Read More below).  Also, there is an article "Remembering Judy Lowe" on the Del Ray Patch that is collecting rememberances.
